Woman jailed over improper use of mobile phone

A middle aged woman was convicted to serve three months in prison in default of Ksh25,000 fine after found guilty of using her mobile phone improperly.

Appearing before Nyeri Senior Resident Magistrate Joanne Wambliyanga on Monday, Grace Muringo Gichuru was charged for allegedly sending abusive text messages to another woman tagged on conflict of interest.

Particulars were that on diverse dates between January 27th and May 30th 2012 within Nyeri County, the accused used a licensed telecommunication system-safaricom line to send Millicent Muthoni Macharia messages contented with abusive language.

She, however, denied the charges prompting the prosecutor to call three witnesses.

She informed the court that on January 27th she received a message stating that she should go to church and repent, furthermore that she is a prostitute.

Occasionally, she received another one on February 14th threatening that there were men who would kill her ‘so that people can be at peace’. The messages were from the accused number.
